I’ve always been into photography (thanks dad, I think?), but I finally decided to take the plunge and upgrade to a real camera. I hadn’t held an actual camera in over 10 years, so he thought of dropping some serious cash on a fancy camera was daunting.
After some serious umming and ahhing for months, I settled on a Fujifilm, the XT30 II with the 18-55mm lens kit. After hearing so many good things, I felt confident in my decision – am I’m happy to say I think I made the right choice.
So, after unboxing it and fiddling with the settings, I headed down to the local marina to take it for a spin.
The weather was perfect—a sunny, slightly breezy day. I was a bit nervous at first, trying to figure out how all the buttons and settings worked, and also about shooting in public, but after a few minutes, I started to remember my way around and relaxed.
Off I went for a wander, got a few pics of the harbour and some new developments, played around with some of the preset film simulations (so good!) and got a good feel for the camera and lens.
I know I have a lot to learn, but this is going to be fun and I’m so happy with my decision to go with the Fujifilm XT30 II. I fear this is the start of a very expensive hobby…
